OLGA DE LA IGLESIA MUSES OF NOW.jpg

How do you define your art?

I am an artist and photographer, I live and work between Barcelona and New York, my work explores the boundaries between fashion and documentary photography. In my images the two languages merge to generate visual narratives that, through colors and shapes, maintain a close connection with social structures. My source of inspiration is humanity in all its facets, from the everyday objects we use to the places where we live and interact. My work aims to blur the lines between the set and real life. My work is also based on the study of colors and their direct connection with emotions, in my works colors become objects and people become colors.

What are the origins of your creation?

Nature.

What it's like to be an artist woman nowadays?

It feels lighter than in the past I guess but still fighting the weight of patriarchy.

What is your ritual to connect with your inner self?

Dance naked in front of the mirror or meditate.

What is feminism for you today?

Feminism should not be mentioned as a concept, we are all equal in the unit there are no nomeclatures/labels.

‘Women have different shapes and colors that contribute to the global beauty of humanity’

How do you contribute to shape the future?

In my work, women have different shapes and colors that contribute to the global beauty of humanity, accept those differences and work with models that aren't from agency exclusively bring near the viewer to the reality of the world and not to which the media want to show.

As Simone de Beauvoir said, were you born as a woman or did you become a woman?

I was born as a woman, and I became many during my life.

What would you say to a woman who think to become an artist?

Believe in what you do with all your heart and don´t look what others are doing.

What is to be a Muse who inspires people?

Transmit the values in which I believe and give light and provoke emotions to others without receiving anything in return only hope for the world.

Who is your biggest Muse?

I think I don't know my muse's name, but it is probably any mother in the world who takes a family forward and never gives up.
